POSITION: Acres of Fun Summer Camp Coordinator

SUPERVISES: Camp counsellors, volunteers, co-op students and WindReach Farm Acres of Fun Summer Day Camp participants
REPORTS TO: Executive Director

JOB SUMMARY

The Camp Coordinator is responsible for the planning, implementation, administration and evaluation of WindReach Farm’s Acres of Fun Summer Camp, within the guidelines of the organization’s mission statement and policies.  He/she is responsible for providing leadership, ensuring the safety of all participants and direct supervision of campers in all summer camp activities.  The Summer Camp Coordinator will act as a leader, providing guidance and support to all camp staff and volunteers and maintain a positive relationship with staff, parents/guardians, support staff and campers.

Approximately 40 – 60 hours will be required between March and June to help with marketing and planning. By June 26th hours will be regular 35 to 40 hours per week until September 1st. As we have applied for Government funding, potential applicants for this position must be full time students who plan to return to school in the Fall.

QUALIFICATIONS  

• Experience directing, planning and administering recreational programs or camps for children;
• Experience with or knowledge of disability issues;
• Ability to direct staff;
• Extensive experience working with individuals with special needs/disabilities;
• Experience and knowledge of Adapted and Integrated recreation programs;
• Proven administration, organizational, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills;
• Knowledgeable of health and safety issues specific to the disability field;
• Post secondary education in recreation or related field, and related training would be an asset;
• Must produce original current Emergency or Standard First Aid certification.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop, organize, implement and oversee WindReach Farm’s Acres of Fun Summer Day Camp program;
• In collaboration with the Summer Camp Leadership team, develop marketing materials and effectively promote the summer camp in the community;
• Receive and respond to summer camp public inquires in a timely manner;
• Recruit and register all summer camp participants, maintaining accurate registration records and camper roster;
• Develop/manage/update Summer Camp contact database which includes past, present, and potential participants and organizations;
• Create and oversee weekly summer camp staff schedules;
• Evaluate Summer Camp Counsellors in a constructive manner, giving and listening to any feedback;
• Review, complete and follow up on all incident reports, reporting them to the Executive Director immediately;
• Co-ordinate the acquisition of necessary summer camp supplies and equipment and overseeing their maintenance;
• Responsible for the supervision of camp participants while ensuring the general safety and development, growth and skill achievement of campers;
• Provide a safe and inclusive environment to ensure the operation of a quality summer day camp program;
• Provide for the physical and emotional safety of campers at all times;
• Provide instruction and help campers to participate successfully in all aspects of the summer camp program while encouraging independence;
• Ensure that all summer camp activities are inclusive in nature allowing for all campers to participate at his or her own ability;
• Communicate with parents/guardians regarding any concerns involving campers;
• Prepare, maintain and process all summer camp forms and paperwork accurately and promptly (rosters, time sheets, equipment, staff paperwork, etc.);
• Plan and facilitate effective staff meetings once per week with Summer Camp Counsellors;
• Attend all WindReach Farm staff meetings as required;
• Report and meet with the Executive Director on a frequent basis;
• Ensure that all applicable WindReach Farm policies and procedures are being followed;
• In collaboration with the Volunteer and Operations Manager, give guidance and direction to summer camp volunteers;
• Communicate and effectively engage with campers, parents/guardians, staff and volunteers:
• Work with the Executive Director in monitoring all summer camp expenses and revenues within the framework of the operating budget;
• Plan, organize and facilitate end of camp clean up and inventory;
• Prepare and submit a comprehensive summer camp final report upon completion of the program; and
• Perform all other related duties as assigned.

POSITION: Weekend Staff – Stables Assistant

SUPERVISES: Weekend Volunteers
REPORTS TO: Volunteer Coordinator & Stable Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY

To oversee the care of all livestock at the Stables and check on them during weekend hours. To ensure there is appropriate food, water and clean bedding for the animals. To welcome and greet any visitors who come to WindReach Farm on the weekends.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1)  ANIMAL CARE

Ensure all animals are healthy and happy.

  • Open and close up/lock necessary gates and buildings at Stables
  • Feed, water and provide appropriate bedding for animals
  • Blanket, turn in/turn out horses (bring in horses required for lessons)
  • Re-set horse feed buckets for the next day
  • Muck stalls, dump manure, sweep, clean Stables area as needed
  • Provide first aid care or administer medication to horses as required
  • Feed the barn cat and clean the litter

2)  COMMUNICATION AND CUSTOMER SERVICE

  • Check voicemail throughout the day and answer/take off messages
  • Forward information about volunteer/rider cancellations to instructors
  • Approach any visitor and see what they want/need (if unexpected visitor, tell them the farm is often closed on weekends and to call x 233 to see about any upcoming weekend bookings or to set up a weekday visit)
  • Check in with on call staff at 4:00 pm (end of working day)

3)  OTHER RELATED DUTIES

  • Communicate weekend happenings with appropriate Stable staff
  • Check in with on-call staff as per procedure
  • Supervise any weekend volunteers
  • Ability to drive and use some types of farm equipment (Gator, Tractor)
  • Empty all stables garbage into the bin at the farm
  • Be cross trained with the farm weekend staff and assist them if necessary
  • Other duties as assigned
