Therapeutic Riding Program

horseback riding

WindReach Farm is proud to offer therapeutic and recreational horseback riding lessons to individuals with special needs.  We are a member center of the Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association (CanTRA) and the Ontario Therapeutic Riding Association (OnTRA).  Lessons are taught by Equine Canada, CanTRA or North American Handicapped Riding Association (NAHRA) certified instructors or individuals working towards their certification.

Three riding programs are currently running at the stables:

  • WindReach Riding Lesson Program

Group and private lessons focusing on therapy and/or developing riding skills.  These lessons focus on mounted skills as well as ground work, grooming and tacking up the horse.

  • School Therapeutic/Recreational Riding Program

Open to groups of special needs students from schools across the Durham region.  This weekday morning program offers students, their teachers and educational assistants the opportunity to participate in the daily activities and responsibilities of a working stable.  Students rotate through stations of horse grooming, riding, ground work, stable chores and written activity folders.

  • Durham Therapeutic Riding Association (DTRA)

A separate organization run by its own executive,  DTRA runs group therapeutic riding lessons out of the stables at WindReach Farm two evenings a week from May to November.  For more information on this program please contact
