​Manager, Equine Programs and Operations

(FT- Contract - Maternity Leave)

For over 35 years, WindReach Farm has been providing impactful and life changing programs and services for people of all ages and abilities. We use an accessible working farm environment to provide therapeutic programs to people of all abilities. We offer learning and experiential opportunities, with the goal of engaging with our participants to strengthen skills, independence, and physical well-being in a safe and nurturing environment. WindReach Farm is a registered charity.

 

We are currently recruiting an experienced Manager, Equine Programs and Operations (FT- Contract - Maternity Leave) to join our team in May 2026. Ideally the successful candidate will overlap with the incumbent. 

 

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager is responsible for the development and management of the Therapeutic Riding Program, including any other WindReach Farm equine programs, and the operation of WindReach Farm Stables. The Manager will ensure participant and family satisfaction and makes program and service improvements as appropriate. They will further ensure compliance with applicable standards for equine wellbeing, for equine programs, and for the health and safety of staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. EQUINE PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION

    • Investigate the potential for new equine programs, develop plan(s), and implement on approval of the Executive Director.

    • With the assistance of the Executive Director, conducts regular participant/family satisfaction surveys and provides a summary of the results to the Executive Director.

    • Recruit new participants to join the Therapeutic Riding Program/other equine programs.

    • Oversee registrations and scheduling of all WindReach Equine Programs including the Therapeutic Riding Program and School Program participants.

    • Recruit, supervise and manage all riding instructors, ensuring proper instructor certifications, approval of contract payments and performance management.

    • Oversee boarding services and delegate activities as appropriate to your direct reports.

    • Benchmark, monitor and recommend program and operational rate changes.

    • Ensure that all WindReach Farm stable programs and facilities meet CanTRA and Ontario Equestrian Federation standards to maintain full, current membership status.

  2. EQUINE HEALTH 

    • Oversee health care program for horses and delegate as appropriate to your direct reports.

    • Oversee horse health care records and document health issues.

    • Ensure an updated list of emergency contacts and make available to appropriate personnel.

    • Assign horses for riding lessons

    • Oversee horse suitability, training, and care in terms of monitoring horse workload.

    • Follow rider-horse ratios as determined by CanTRA

    • Observe horses in lessons and determine if they need a break, retraining in a particular area, or massage therapy/chiropractic treatment/saddle refitting, etc. 

    • Remove/retire unsuitable horses from the herd

    • Be prepared/make arrangements to respond to horse health emergency calls outside of regular working hours.

  3. SAFETY AND ADMINISTRATION

    • Negotiate free-lease and board contracts for approval by the Executive Director.

    • Ensure all areas used by Equine Programs meet health and safety regulations.

    • Oversee and provide regular feedback on the performance of the Equine Program and your direct reports.

    • Regularly review program lesson logs, school horse training logs, and tack cleaning logs.

    • Liaise with Volunteer Coordinator to ensure the program has sufficient volunteer/identifies the need for volunteers.

    • Promote use of facility for clinics, competitions and rentals.

    • Provide updated website and social media content on an ongoing basis.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • CanTRA II Certification or above or other equivalent certification 

  • Equine Canada Instructor or Equine Canada Coach preferred 

  • Proficient in Excel and Microsoft word 

  • Experience running a riding program/riding school and scheduling

  • First Aid and CPR Certified 

  • Experience managing staff and/or volunteers 

  • Experience training/schooling horses 

  • Experience working with people with exceptionalities 

  • Education: one or a combination of a business degree, Registered OT, PT, or RT. 

 

Salary range: $65,000 to $75,000 per year.
