WINDSPROUT
WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAM
The WindSprout Work Experience Program provides individuals with disabilities the opportunity to explore possibilities and sets them on a course to develop to their full potential. Program participants learn and develop meaningful vocational skills and gain on-the-job work experience within the context of an inclusive, barrier-free environment. The WindSprout Work Experience Program develops participants' skills in animal care, custodial work, property maintenance, horticulture, customer service and soon to be added, culinary arts. Participants also learn soft skills like how to ask for accommodations in the workplace, appropriate attire and etiquette for a variety of jobs.
The WindSprout Work Experience Program is split up into seasonal sessions. Participants attend the program twice per week for the duration of each session. Participants will learn about health and safety, etiquette, hygiene, and proper decorum. They will also be introduced to each of the different program areas for a series of work rotations. This ensures that all participants get a chance to experience all the program has to offer. Towards the end of the year, participants will learn how to ask for accommodations in the workplace, as well as strategies for dealing with stigma in the workplace, and strategies for navigating difficult situations and conversations.
The WindSprout Work Experience Program has been designed for adults with a disability who face barriers to employment, but who wish to participate in the workforce in a meaningful way.
